Yoga for Athletes

MY MISSION

I wish I had known then what I know now, about yoga. As a former Division I athlete, I devoted nearly two decades of my life training for my sport  through conventional methods such as weight-lifting, plyometrics, stretching, running stadium stairs, and watching films to enhance my performance.  While those practices served their purpose at the time, I now know that yoga would have added a unique dimension and discipline to my efforts.

“There is no way I could have played basketball as long as I did without yoga.  My friends and teammates think I made a deal with the devil.  But it was yoga that made my training complete.”
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, NBA’s all-time leading scorer

After reading this quote from one of sport’s all-time greats who retired at age 42 after 20 NBA seasons, I gave yoga a try.  I marveled to find that this practice enhanced my strength, flexibility and endurance while preventing and helping to heal injuries.  Along the way, I came to experience yoga as so much more than a physical practice.  It provides focus, mental discipline, and freedom .

The practice of yoga has empowered me. But it’s not about me now. It’s about helping YOU. I speak your language and can make yoga accessible to you.  Regardless of your sport, I am confident that I can help your game through the transformative practice of yoga.

Throughout my career, I have always felt like I was not flexible. In November of 2008, I began doing yoga with Ellen and started seeing physical results immediately.  In addition, yoga has improved my overall mental focus. I recommend yoga for any person who wants to enhance their athletic ability in multiple dimensions.
